Man Killed In Queens After Tree Falls On Car During Storm

A 60-year-old man was killed in Briarwood midday Tuesday after strong winds from Tropical Storm Isaias knocked a tree onto his car.

BRIARWOOD, QUEENS — A man was killed midday Tuesday after strong winds from Tropical Storm Isaias knocked a tree onto his car, according to police and fire officials.

East Harlem resident Mario Siles was sitting in his van on 84th Drive near Smedley Street in Briarwood about 1 p.m. when the tree came crashing down, spokespeople with the Fire Department and the NYPD told Patch.

Siles, 60, was pinned inside the parked car and died shortly after.

It was the city's first reported death resulting from Isaias, which brought 70 mph winds, torrential rain and a threat of tornados to New York City.

The strong winds had knocked down or damaged at least 2,000 trees across the city by mid-afternoon, Mayor Bill de Blasio told 1010 WINS.
