MASPETH, QUEENS — A sinkhole opened wide just in time for Thanksgiving.

The massive sinkhole formed Thursday morning near 70th Street and 52nd Avenue in Maspeth and swallowed a parked, unoccupied SUV, according to City Council Member Bob Holden.

Authorities managed to lift the car out, but the damage left its owner — a ride-hail driver — without a way to work, a representative from Holden's office told Patch.

It's unclear how the sinkhole formed.
