Memories Of Shanghai Moves From Alleyway To Austin Street

The popular Forest Hills dim sum restaurant has traded in its hideaway next to the NYPD's 112th Precinct for a spot on Austin Street.

FOREST HILLS, QUEENS — Dim sum restaurant Memories of Shanghai has traded in its snug alleyway spot next to the Forest Hills police precinct for a prime location on Austin Street.

The acclaimed restaurant moved this weekend into the spot previously occupied by Forest Hills Diner, according to local blog Edge of the City and an employee who answered the restaurant's phone Tuesday.

The diner closed in May due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Last year, Memories of Shanghai was one of two Queens spots named to the Michelin guide's Bib Gourmand list for eateries with "affordable and remarkable dining experiences."

The "craftsmanship of the dumplings is impossible to miss," reviewers wrote.

At its new location, at 68-60 Austin St., the eatery has kicked things up a notch with an expanded menu, according to Edge of the City, which posted photos of the new menu.
