'The National' To Head 2-Day Music Fest At Forest Hills Stadium

Jason Isbell, Cat Powers and more will join the Grammy-winning rock band's "There's No Leaving New York" show Sept. 29 - 30.

FOREST HILLS, QUEENS -- After playing one of their "favorite shows in the history of the band" at Forest Hills Stadium, The National will return to Queens for a two-day concert in September - And this time, the rock band is bringing friends.

The National will headline its own music festival, titled "There's No Leaving New York," at the Forest Hills venue from Sept. 29-30, the rock band announced on Monday. The lineup includes Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Future Islands, CatPower, Cigarettes After Sex, Phoebe Bridgers, U.S. Girls, Bully and Adia Victoria.

Aaron Desser, The National's guitarist, said Forest Hills Stadium became one of the band's favorite venues after their October show there, and they've wanted to go back ever since.

"The incredible legacy of the place and the fact that it still feels intimate even given its size, we started talking immediately about finding a way to come back for multiple nights with friends," Dessner said.

"We couldn't be happier to announce these shows in September with some of our favorite artists."

Desser and his brother Bryce formed The National with Matt Berninger and brothers Scott and Bryan Devendorf out of Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1999. The band has since gone on to headline tours around the world and this year won the Best Alternative Music Album Grammy for "Sleep Well Beast."

Tickets to the music festival go on sale at 10 a.m. April 13, but members of The National's Cherry Tree fan club can get theirs as early this Tuesday. Costs range from $130 to $350, according to the Forest Hills Stadium website.

A dollar from every ticket sold will go toward Brooklyn's Brownsville Community Culinary Center, which helps provide locals with healthy, accessible foods.
