Photo of the Day: Forest Hills Residents Take Part in New York City Kidney Walk

Three local residents walk to support mother-in-law who recently received a kidney transplant.

More than 7,500 people gathered Sunday at Manhattan's Foley Square and walked over the Brooklyn Bridge during the 12th annual New York City Kidney Walk.

Three Forest Hills residents - Suman Thareja, Shelly Channan and Shivanie Ramotar - were on the team that crossed the finish list first during the walk. More than 250 teams took part in the event.

The three women were walking for Channan's mother-in-law, who recently received a kidney transplant.

A total $75,000 was raised during the walk to fund the National Kidney Foundation's awareness, prevention and treatment programs.
