Queens Borough President's Office Hosts Virtual Job Fair

The Queens Borough President's Office will host a virtual job fair Wednesday to help combat the borough's rising unemployment rate.

QUEENS, NY — The Office of the Queens Borough President will host its sixth virtual job fair Wednesday to help Queens residents find work as the borough's unemployment rate reaches nearly 22 percent.

The webinar, which takes place from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., includes brief presentations from employers and recruiters seeking to fill positions in fields like health care, transportation and security.

Companies and nonprofits participating in the recruitment fair include the Child Center of New York, Community Capacity Development, the Council for Airport Opportunity, LIFE Camp, Inc., Mercy Home, MetroPlus Health Plan, New York Life, NYC Health + Hospitals, Queens Centers for Progress, Rock Safe Streets - a Sheltering Arms program, WATCH GUARD 24/7, Workforce1 and the Young Adult Institute.

Queens' unemployment rate reached 21.8 percent in June, up from 3 percent in February, as New Yorkers continue grappling with the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and related guidelines on the local economy, according to a news release Tuesday.

More than 1.5 million New York City residents filed unemployment claims between March 8 and July 18, according to the New York State Department of Labor.

“With an unemployment rate north of 20 percent in New York City, it is critical that we connect job seekers with available positions in key sectors of our restarting economy,” Acting Queens Borough President Sharon Lee said in a statement.

Prospective applicants interested in participating in the job fair's interactive Zoom webinar must RSVP by Tuesday. The fair will also be live-streamed at queensbp.org/recruitmentfair.
