Queens Memory Project Marks 10 Years Compiling Borough Stories
The community archiving project is marking its 10th anniversary compiling the stories of residents across the borough.
QUEENS, NY — Queens Memory, a community archiving program supported by the Queens Public Library and Queens College Library, is marking its 10th anniversary compiling the stories of residents across the borough.
The Queens Memory team will commemorate the occasion on Sept. 30 with “A Decade of Stories: The Queens Memory Project Celebrates 10 Years,” a broadcast featuring highlights from their collection of oral histories and special guests who have contributed to the project over the past decade.
Thanks to the work of hundreds of volunteers, Queens Memory has collected more than 600 interviews with Queens residents representing 30-plus countries of origin and hosted more than 300 events, according to a news release.

In April, Queens Memory launched the COVID-19 Project to compile first-person accounts from members of the communities most affected by the coronavirus pandemic. The stories, which touch on varied aspects of the pnamidec, are featured in a new season of the Queens Memory podcast.
“We are so proud to be a trusted keeper of Queens stories,” Natalie Milbrodt, director of the Queens Memory Project, said. “We can only do it with the help of Queens residents, who are incredible partners in this work, recording interviews with neighbors, family members and friends for the collections. We are grateful to them for making history with us.”
