Queens Solid Waste Advisory Board Now Accepting Applications
Queens residents interested in the environment, waste and recycling are encouraged to apply for a spot advising the borough president.
KEW GARDENS, QUEENS — Queens residents interested in the environment, recycling and what happens to their garbage have a new opportunity to weigh in on those issues and more: The Queens Borough President's Office is now accepting applications to serve on its Queens Solid Waste Advisory Board.
The board brings together carting and recycling industry representatives and Queens residents to advise the borough president on matters related to waste, recycling, resiliency and environmental equity, according to a news release.
Applicants have until Feb. 26 to apply for a two-year term on the board, either as an individual or the representative of an organization or business. Board members are unpaid and meet monthly.

Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, who is in charge of making appointments to the board, encouraged anyone interested in building a greener Queens to apply.
“We will leave no stone unturned when it comes to ensuring environmental justice for all Queens communities, especially for our long-underserved neighborhoods and those areas most endangered by the perils of climate change,” Richards said. “Comprised of community advocates representing all cross-sections of our borough, the Queens Solid Waste Advisory Board will be an invaluable source of expertise as we work tirelessly toward a zero waste future."
