The Queens Zoo in Flushing Meadows Corona Park welcomed a tiny new addition this month — a southern pudu, the world's smallest species of deer.Â
The fawn weighed just one pound at birth, according to zoo staff, the youngest of a species that usually only grow to be around a foot tall and 20 pounds at the largest.Â
The pudu, which is native to South America, is currently on the endangered species list, a result of habitat loss and overhunting by local populations.Â
Want to stop by and see the little newborn doe? The Queens Zoo is located at 53-51 111th St. and is open year-round.Â
