Street Safety Activists Tackle the Boulevard of Death
City officials failed to keep their promise on finishing redesigning the Queens Boulevard. Street safety activists are now taking action.
To native Queens residents, Queens Boulevard also known as “Boulevard of Death”, is a very dangerous road in the New York City borough of Queens connecting Midtown Manhattan, Queensboro Bridge, to Jamaica. The 1920s and 1930s was when the boulevard was widened due to the digging of the subway tunnels that are right under Queens Boulevard today. Its immense width, heavy traffic and commercial scene in these areas has made Queens Boulevard one of the deadliest thoroughfares.
Don’t you worry, street safety activists are here to rescue us. They are now calling on officials to finish redesigning a dangerous stretch of Queens Boulevard in Forest Hills. More than 500 days after the promise of redesigning, there was no progress in sight. Two dozen activists have gathered in MacDonald Park for another rally demanding the city to redesign a portion of Queens Boulevard from Yellowstone Boulevard to Union Turnpike in Forest Hills. This is your community. Your home. Let’s strive to create a safe space for our beloved friends, family and neighbors.
