Which Mayoral Candidates Do Forest Hills Residents Support?
We followed the money to find out which candidates have the greatest number of donors in Forest Hills, and how much people are giving.
FOREST HILLS, QUEENS — Usually, one way to find out how your neighbors might vote is by looking at polls, but in a year when mayoral polling remains sparse, following the money is another way to track how candidates are doing in your area.
Mapping campaign donations by ZIP code shows how candidates are faring in different neighborhoods — both in terms of how many people are supporting their campaign monetarily, and how much each person is able to give on average.
In the Forest Hills ZIP code of 11375, 851 people have made donations to mayoral campaigns, amounting to $93,201 worth of contributions overall. Below, we’ll look at how many people from Forest Hills contributed to the top mayoral campaigns, and how much money each campaign has received from the neighborhood.

McGuire and Stringer are the only other candidates to have raised more than $10,000 each in the neighborhood.
It’s also worth noting that $11,547 worth of donations in Forest Hills went to candidates other than those eight.
For instance, Republican mayoral candidate Curtis Silwa (who is not shown on this chart) has raised $3,821 from 43 donors in the neighborhood, which is more money and more individual donations than Donovan has in the area.
Number of donors in Forest Hills

But, in terms of the number of individual donors that candidates have in Forest Hills, it’s a slightly different story.
Yang still leads the pack with a total of 278 individual donations — he’s the only candidate in Forest Hills to break the 200-donation threshold — but Wiley, the runner-up, has the second greatest number of donors in the neighborhood, despite raising the second least amount of money.
Similarly Morales, who raised only slightly more money than Wiley, is the only other candidate to have more than 100 donors in the neighborhood.
Wiley and Morales’ performance in Forest Hills reflects their overall fundraising strategies — following Yang, both women are among the top-three mayoral candidates with the most donors citywide.
For Morales especially, whose campaign has centered immigrant, poor, and working class New Yorkers, a large donor base is integral to her campaign — although despite having one of the most wide-spread donor bases, her campaign is facing internal turmoil as of late.
By contrast, Adams and McGuire, who have raised some of the most money in Forest Hills, are among the bottom-three mayoral candidates in terms of how many donors they have in the neighborhood.
Adams has received 48 individual donations, at an average rate of $341 apiece, and McGuire has received only 19 individual donations — the fewest in the neighborhood among these candidates — at an average rate of $551 apiece.
The average donation for Yang, Wiley, and Morales’ donors is under $100 each.
Garcia, a more recent frontrunner in the election, is the only other candidate among the eight whose average donation is under $100, and who has more than 90 individual donors in the neighborhood.
Here's a chart comparing how much money each candidate has raised in Forest Hills, and how many donors each has in the neighborhood:
