At Former Tillie's of Brooklyn Site, Only Traces of Beloved Coffeeshop Remain

For mourners of the long-shuttered Tillie's of Brooklyn, it might be the final indignity.

On Tuesday, a pile of debris left in the wake of the somewhat expected but ultimately shocking demise of a beloved coffeeshop began to accumulate on the sidewalk—with doors removed from their hinges mingling with discarded light fixtures.

In front of the colorful "You Are Here" mural depicting Fort Greene-Clinton Hill's uniquely slanted street grid was what appeared to be Tillie's bathroom sink upside down on top of black plastic bags of trash.

On a door leaning up against a brick wall, a sign still read:

"Tillie's of Brooklyn
SUPER
VISORS
ONLY."

The location at 248 Dekalb Ave.—which shares a landlord with cafe/bakery Baguetteaboudit around the corner—is slated to become the site of a new bar and restaurant. No word yet on a name for the establishment.
