Brooklyn District Attorney's Office Now Accepting Applications For High School Internships

Eric Gonzalez's office began taking applications for Brooklyn high schoolers to come work with the DA for the summer.

DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN, NY — The Brooklyn District Attorney's office announced on Tuesday that it is now taking applications for its high school internship program for students who are interested in a five-week program working with the DA's office and learning about criminal justice and public service. To qualify, students must live or attend school in Brooklyn.

Students who are selected for the internship, also run by the United Federation of Teachers, will be able to work with employees of the DA's office in different units. Units include legal research and analysis, news articles and legal periodicals, pretrial matters, case preparation, file maintenance and organizing court documents and trial zone workshops. They will also attend field trips and be able to observe criminal proceedings including trials, guilty pleas and sentencings.

"We are excited to host this hands-on and interactive internship program offering high school students the chance to work directly with Assistant District Attorneys and gain valuable real world experiences," said acting Brooklyn DA Eric Gonzalez in a statement. "Participating students will receive an insider’s view of the criminal justice system and the chance to be mentored in a professional workplace setting."
