Brooklyn Tech Is Among Best STEM Schools In The Country: Newsweek

FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN — Brooklyn Technical High School is one of the best schools in the country when it comes to science, technology, engineering and mathematics, according to a new ranking.

The Fort Greene school was one of only three from Brooklyn that landed on the Newsweek list of America's 500 best STEM high schools. A total of 22 New York City schools made it onto the list, including a Bronx school that took the fourth spot in the country.

"With high-profile institutions in big urban areas and small but strong programs across the nation, America's future in science, technology, engineering and mathematics is in good hands," the report's researchers said.

Brooklyn Technical High School landed in the 324th spot, a few paces behind one of the other Brooklyn schools, Packer Collegiate Institute, and a few ahead of the third, Poly Prep Country Day School.

Newsweek and STEM.org determined the rankings by using regression analysis to evaluate which primary and secondary institutions in America had the best quality science, technology, engineering and mathematics teaching, while also preparing students for post-school life, according to the study.

Bronx High School of Science, which landed in the fourth spot, was the only NYC school to crack the top 10. The New York City schools that made it were split between 10 public schools and 12 private. Check out the full list of the 22 NYC schools here.

The top spot in the country went to the School of Science and Engineering in Dallas, Texas.
