Fort Greene Gears Up For Tree Lighting, Holiday Event Line-Up

FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN — Fort Greene will kick off the holiday season this weekend with its annual tree lighting in the park, the first of several holiday events scheduled for the next few weeks.

The tree lighting, returning for the sixth year, will include selfies with Santa, a toy drive drop off and free cookies and hot cocoa in Fort Greene Park. The event will fun from 4 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8 near the Myrtle Avenue and St. Edwards Street entrance.

The event is sponsored by the Fort Greene Park Conservancy, Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership, IBEC Living and Apple Bank.

Also this weekend will be a holiday market at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The market will include jewelry, furniture, home goods, food and drink and more at 1 Flushing Ave. It will run from noon to 6 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

Among the other upcoming holiday events will be a winter festival on Myrtle Avenue put on by the Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership, a caroling event in Fowler Square Plaza, another holiday market at the Navy Yard a few days before Christmas and a toy giveaway.
