Late Brooklyn District Attorney's Suits Donated To Former Prisoners

Thompson's widow said he'd be happy to know his suits will help someone make a better life for themselves.

DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN, NY — The widow of the late Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson, Lu-Shawn Thompson, donated 20 of his suits, dress shirts, shoes and ties to a program that helps Rikers Island prisoners gain employment, the Brooklyn District Attorney's office announced Wednesday.

The Brooklyn District Attorney's office, as part of a clothing drive called "Dressed for Success," has collected 65 men's suits and over 200 other items of clothing to go towards helping former prisoners find jobs. The drive is a joint effort among the Brooklyn DA's office, the Metropolitan Black Bar Association, the NAACP-Mid Manhattan Branch Criminal Justice Committee, "100 Suits for 100 Men," and other community organizations and leaders.

"My husband, the late and great Ken Thompson, would be happy to know that 20 of his suits and related clothing have been passed on to individuals seeking a better life," Lu-Shawn Thompson said. "It is my hope and prayer that this clothing helps someone land their first significant job, obtain independence, or even improve their self-esteem. The legacy of my husband will live on through the men who will ultimately adorn his clothes and make their own marks on the world."

The drive began on Jan. 17. The last day to donate is Feb. 10 at 350 Jay St. in Downtown Brooklyn. You can leave donations in the lobby between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
