Medgar Evers College to Host Discussions With New York Elected Officials

Medgar Evers College hosts the State of Latino NY 2016 Town Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 5, and Why She Ran on Thursday, Oct. 13.

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — Two upcoming events at Medgar Evers College, CUNY in Crown Heights, will highlight the state of the New York City Latino community and the paths of female leaders through open discussions featuring local elected officials, activists, musicians and media professionals.

The first event is the State of Latino NY 2016 Town Hall, on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 11:30 a.m., at Founders Auditorium, located at 1650 Bedford Ave., in coordination with National Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs through Oct. 15.

The town hall panel includes New York City Council Members Rafael Espinal and Carlos Menchaca, State Assemblywoman Ischia Bravo, senior editor at Vibe Marjua Estevez, DJ Enuff and others. The panel is set to discuss issues that are important to the Latino community including economic challenges and opportunities, criminal justice reform, community policing, the presidential elections and immigration.

The second event is hosted by New York City Council Member Laurie Cumbo and the New York City Council's Women's Caucus: Why She Ran, takes place on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 4 p.m. at the Edison O. Jackson Auditorium located at 1638 Bedford Ave., and is a conversation with female leaders who are current city and state elected officials who will talk about their personal journeys to inspire the next generation of woman leaders.
