Navy Yard Food Scene To Get Very Delicious

The Navy Yard is getting local Korean sliders, a Crown Heights Caribbean food restaurant, a Bed-Stuy Haitian fare outpost and more.

FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN — The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development announced that they added six local eateries and cafes to Building 77, the Navy Yard's food manufacturing hub, including a Bed-Stuy Haitian eatery, Brooklyn Greenery, Brooklyn Brewery, Mast Chocolate Brothers and several other local businesses to go alongside its planned new location of Russ & Daughters, the famous Lower East Side Jewish deli.

Building 77 is meant to provide a space where Navy Yard tenants and their employees can eat, work and collaborate, and it's poised to add hundreds of new jobs to the area, the Navy Yard Development Corporation says. Here are the eateries coming to the Yard, courtesy of the development corporation:

Brooklyn Greenery – Providers of unique, healthy and clean food options, with a commitment to the environment and local community. Offerings will include smoothies, salads, juices, acai bowls, and a variety of breakfast and lunch items. This is the second outpost from Brooklyn natives John Augustin and Jason Young. Expected to create six jobs.

Rustik Tavern – Places an emphasis on engaging the community through regular events and partnerships with local schools and non-profits. Brooklyn native and resident Frantz Metellus has owned and operated the Bed-Stuy/Clinton Hill establishment since 2008, which serves fiercely flavorful classic comfort dishes and cocktails with a "Rustik" flair. With Rustik’s eatery and bar at Building 77, he will bring a similar concept of community engagement to the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Expected to create 12 jobs.

The Food Sermon – Founded by St.Vincent and Grenadines native Chef Rawlston Williams, The Food Sermon offers Caribbean-inspired cuisine at affordable prices. The original Crown Heights location was intended to be a small outpost for a catering business, but the pint-sized restaurant quickly attracted neighborhood fans and critical acclaim. The signature Island Bowls feature savory stewed meats swimming in coconut-ginger and spicy tomato sauces. They will also be manufacturing their own brand of bottled Food Sermon hot sauces at the Brooklyn Navy Yard facility, as well as their popular house-made bottled teas. Expected to create 10 jobs.

Tiny Drumsticks – Fully licensed and equipped commissary designed to provide space for small manufacturers, emerging caterers, private chefs and special event coordinators to safely and legally craft their tasty creations at an affordable rate. Tiny Drumsticks will create a commissary option within feet of other emerging food entrepreneurs, promoting collaboration and opportunities for partnership. Founders Benjamin Sloan and Connie Sun opened their first location in LIC and will create a second facility at Building 77 that will be designed with an emphasis on food manufacturing. Bite Size Kitchen, a catering company, and popular Smorgasburg stand operated and co-owned by Connie Sun, and 97th Street concessions at Rockaway Beach, will operate out of Tiny Drumsticks and run the food service portion, offering their take on traditional American breakfast and lunch items, and rotating options from the other commercial kitchen users. Expected to create 20 to 100 jobs.

We Rub You – Launched as a food stand at Brooklyn Flea's Smorgasburg selling Korean BBQ sliders. We Rub You is minority certified and 100% owned and operated by Korean-American sisters Ann and Janet Chung, who are committed to providing support for survivors of human trafficking. WRY Korean BBQ sauces and condiments, based on Ann and Janet’s family recipes, are made in the USA with authentic and natural ingredients and sold worldwide. We Rub You will be manufacturing an expanded line of Korean specialties and condiments and offering Korean lunch takeout at Building 77. Ann and Janet are excited to realize their vision of sharing love through Korean food. Expected to create 10 to 15 jobs.

Grandchamps – Bed-Stuy Haitian eatery which celebrates the heritage of husband and wife owners Shawn and Sabrina Brockman. Grandchamps is committed to bringing positive awareness to Haitian culture and cuisine and hiring and training staff from the local community. The new Brooklyn Navy Yard location will offer coffee, tea, and Haitian breakfast and lunch options. Expected to create 12 jobs.

Mast Brothers Chocolate – Founded by brothers Rick and Michael Mast, the Brooklyn-based chocolate maker moved their operations into the Green Manufacturing Center (GMC) at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, a state-of-the-art, LEED-certified manufacturing facility in 2016. The kiosk at Building 77 will showcase their signature chocolate bars as well as some of their other chocolate based goodies such as beverages and flavorful confections.

Brooklyn Roasting Company – A Yard tenant who will be roasting and distributing all of their coffee beans from their soon to open factory at the Green Manufacturing Center, BRC will be selling coffee and other breakfast goodies from their kiosk in Building 77.

Brooklyn Brewery – The iconic Brooklyn Brewery will build a new 75,000 SF brewery, beer garden and headquarters at Building 77 and will produce 50,000 barrels of beer annually at the Yard. The Brewery will play a pivotal role in creating a vibrant publicly accessible food manufacturing and retail hub on the ground floor, while the rooftop beer garden and restaurant will be a welcome place for tenants and community members to relax, collaborate, and meet. Expected to create 30 jobs.

Russ & Daughters – The venerable New York City food institution will anchor the ground floor of Building 77 with a food manufacturing center as well as a retail space and bagel sandwich shop, enabling it to dramatically expand its food production and distribution capabilities, and providing its first retail presence outside of Manhattan. Russ & Daughters will be an integral part of a bustling ecosystem at Building 77 and will also help attract and support a next generation of food entrepreneurs to the Yard. Expected to create 42 jobs.
