FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN — Rules about eating before a workout will go out the window for the 10th year in a row as the NYC Pizza Run returns this weekend.

The eclectic race — which challenges runners to complete a 5K while stopping at checkpoints to eat two slices of pizza — will kick off Sunday, Sep. 29 in Fort Greene Park. This is the third year the race has graced the Brooklyn park after starting in Manhattan back in 2010.

"It's hard to believe that we've been doing this for a decade now, but it seems like people have only become more obsessed with pizza and running since our inaugural year in 2010," founder Jason Feirman said. "Fort Greene is one of my favorite neighborhoods in New York City and the park has been a wonderful setting for our event."

Feirman, who runs a pizza blog IDreamOfPizza, said the race has attracted runners from as far as Australia over the years.

But, of course, it's main audience are New Yorkers who, like him, are obsessed with a good slice.

The idea for the race started when he decided to combine that love with his other favorite hobby.

“Two of my biggest passions have always been eating and running, and 10 years ago I had this crazy idea to combine the those two passions into a one of a kind New York City experience," Feirman said.

So whether you're running as a pizza, or for the pizza, here's what you need to know to get a slice of the fun:

When: The race will start promptly at 11 a.m. Participants should arrive no later than 10:45 a.m. to check in.

Where: Racers will check in on the northeast corner of the park near the intersection of Myrtle Avenue and Washington Park. This will be the starting and finish line for the race — which will be three laps around Fort Greene Park.

How: The $50 registration fee includes an official NYC Pizza Run t-shirt, race bib, two slices of pizza to be consumed during the race, an NYC Pizza run tote bag, and a free drink at a local bar – DSK Brooklyn – after the race. The pizza is provided Pizza By Cer Te.

Why: A portion of the proceeds from the race is donated to JDRF to support Type 1 diabetes research.

If you love food-focused runs, Feirman also organizes the NYC Cupcake Run. This year it will be in Astoria on Oct. 12.
