In Photos: The Best-Dressed Festies at Brooklyn's Afropunk 2016

The annual Afropunk Festival turned Fort Greene's Commodore Barry Park into a street-style paradise last weekend.

FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN — Afropunk 2016 brought out thousands of festival heads out to Fort Greene's Commodore Barry Park last Saturday and Sunday, as in each year for the past decade. And the pics posted to social media don't lie: In 2016, Afropunk has re-secured its incumbent status as the most fashion-forward music fest in the U.S. (Sorry not sorry, Coachella bros.)

The Afropunk Festival grew out of the 2003 documentary film "Afro-Punk," and was held for its first year at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in 2005. Ten years later, in 2015, it went international with Afropunk Paris — and continues to expand this year with a London edition taking place in September.

But in the end, Afropunk is Brooklyn to the core.

Last weekend's musical lineup included underground and mainstream hip-hop, rock, jazz and soul artists such as Tyler the Creator, TV on the Radio, Janelle Monae, Flying Lotus, Thundercat, Earl Sweathshirt, The Internet and dozens more.

Festival-goers in Brooklyn this year pushed style (and gender) norms to the brink. Below are some of the weekend's most inspiring looks.
