Spike Lee Seeking Musical Submissions For 'She's Gotta Have It' Remake
Your song could be part of the soundtrack for Spike Lee's upcoming "She's Gotta Have It" Netflix series, filmed in the streets of Brooklyn.

BROOKLYN, NY — No one can accuse local film legend Spike Lee of leaving the people out of the process. After holding an open casting call last fall for "She's Gotta Have It," a 10-episode Netflix remake of the 1980s classic, Lee is now accepting musical submissions from the general public to add to the project's soundtrack.
The deadline to submit your track via Soundcloud will be this Friday, Feb. 24, at midnight, Lee announced on Instagram. Here's the submission form.
Thank you to all the thousands of people that submitted music to She’s Gotta Have It via SoundCloud! The ABSOLUTE DEADLINE for music submissions will be FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 24th and MIDNIGHT. After which it'll be SHUT DOWN and we will no longer be accepting music. PLEASE, BABY, PLEASE adjust your SoundCloud setting to “public”. We need you do do this so that we can add your music to our list for consideration. If it is set to “private”, we won’t be able to add it to our process, and it will not be considered. Ya dig? Don’t get left behind! And that’s the double truth, Ruth. Click the link in my bio to submit.

Original music will be accepted from independent and unsigned artists representing "all genres," Lee said.

"Only original music created by you — no samples, no cover recordings of other people's songs, no copying of other people's material," he said. "The music is inconsequential to the subject matter of the show. Submit the best of your work."
As of Tuesday evening, less than a week after announcing the opportunity, Lee said he had already received thousands of submissions.

The director reminded others submitting their work to adjust their SoundCloud profile to "public" so his team could access it.
Lee's modern-day remake of "She's Gotta Have It" — his 1986 film about a Brooklyn-based 20-something balancing three flings with three very different types of men — was filmed in the streets, schools, bars and buildings of central Brooklyn from mid-October through mid-January. (Mostly in the Fort Greene/Bed-Stuy/Prospect Heights area, where Lee lives and works.)
"We are getting an opportunity to revisit these memorable characters who will still be relevant and avant-garde three decades later," Lee said in a press release.
In the remake, actress DeWanda Wise will reportedly star as Nola Darling; Cleo Anthony as Greer Childs; Anthony Ramos as Mars Blackmon; Lyriq Bent as Jamie Overstreet; Margot Bingham as Clorinda Bradford; and Sydney Morton as Sheryl Overstreet.
