75 Children Join the Fishing Fun at Glen Cove Mayor's Snapper Derby
The sun cooperated despite the a lack of participation from the fish on Saturday.

About 75 children came out to Pryibil Beach Fishing Pier on Saturday to attend the 2015 Mayor’s Snapper Derby.

“While the fish didn’t cooperate with this year’s competition, kids and their families did catch a day of sun and surprises,” Glen Cove Mayor Reggie Spinello said in a statement.
Event sponsors allowed each child to receive a free tee-shirt, hot dog and soft drink and a fishing accessory, said Tom Manzione of the Glen Cove Anglers Club.

Despite the challenges to reel in a big one, four participants were crowned winners of the Mayor’s Snapper Derby with their catch of the day:
Junior Division
- First Place— Sammy McCrindle
Senior Division
- First Place— William Centeno
- Second Place— Gianna Grol
- Third Place— Nicole Valensisi
The event was held in cooperation with the Glen Cove Department of Parks & Recreation with support from the Glen Cove Anglers Club and the Matinecock Rod & Gun Club.
