Boating Safety Seminar at Garvies Point

Two-part seminar organized in response to rise in accidents and deaths.

A two-part boating safety seminar will be held Saturday, May 4 and Saturday, May 11 at Garvies Point Museum & Preserve from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., according to County Executive Ed Mangano. The seminar is being offered by the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, Glen Cove Flotilla 12-03, for a fee of $50. Participants are required to attend both sessions in order to receive a certificate. The seminar is being held in response to an increase in boating accidents and fatalities in recent years. “Too many people take their boats out onto the water without proper preparation,” said a statement from Mangano. “The boating safety tips offered at this course can help save lives by ensuring boaters are properly prepared before they leave the dock.” The program, prepared by the Coast Guard unit's sailors and power boaters, will cover safety issues, situational awareness, boating responsibility and understanding your vessel.
