Coronavirus: Free Antibody Testing Begins At Glen Cove Church

GLEN COVE, NY — Free antibody testing for the coronavirus begins this week at a church in Glen Cove.

This week, Northwell Health will begin antibody testing for the COVID-19 disease, which is caused by the virus, at 25 additional churches in New York City, Long Island, and Rockland and Westchester counties. The goal is to protect communities of color from additional exposure.

In Glen Cove, antibody testing will be offered at First Presbyterian Church of Glen Cove on North Lane.

Antibodies are proteins that help fight off infections. A blood test can show whether people have previously been infected with the virus. Results in New York have shown that the prevalence of COVID-19 is disproportionately higher in Hispanic and African-American communities throughout New York City and Long island.

The health care giant has been offering antibody testing at churches throughout New York City, Long Island and Westchester County since mid-May.

In Glen Cove, the antibody tests will be offered Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The last appointment each day will be at 4:45 p.m., Councilman Gaitley Stevenson-Mathews told Patch in a Facebook message. Organizers encourage people to make an appointment in advance, though walk-ins are accepted.
