County Support During COVID-19 Outbreak
Addressing physical and mental health concerns are both important during stressful situations like the Coronavirus outbreak.
During a briefing held at Eisenhower Park on March 18, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran and other County representatives discussed mental health concerns along with physical ones surrounding the Coronavirus outbreak.
Aside from stressing how critical it is to practice social distancing, Curran also emphasized the importance of seeking help for any mental health stresses County residents might be experiencing from this situation. “This is a very difficult time for us all, especially for people with existing mental health issues,” Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton said. “The County's Departments of Health, Social Services and Human Services are working hard to help us all adjust to the new social distancing regulations that will save lives during this crisis. Know that the County is also here to help anyone with anxiety and stress issues, whether due to the Coronavirus or otherwise.”
Anyone wishing to be tested for COVID-19 should contact the New York State Coronavirus hotline to schedule drive-up appointments, required in order to be tested. The tests are taking place at Jones Beach and a NYS driver’s license or similar identification is required. Keep car windows closed until told to open them. Call 1-888-364-3065 to schedule an appointment and for further details. Testing hours were 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. as of March 18, but may change.
