Earth Day Weekend Activities In Glen Cove
Here's how the city is celebrating our planet.

In celebration of Earth Day, the City of Glen Cove will be hosting a series of events and collections on Saturday and Sunday.
“Creating a greener Glen Cove is always a priority for our city,” Mayor Timothy Tenke said in a press release.
Saturday: E-Waste Collection, Paper Shredding
An E-Waste collection and paper shredding event will be held on Saturday at the Glen Cove Department of Public Works yard, located at 100 Morris Ave., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Residents are invited to recycle the following electronic waste items: Televisions, VCRs, Stereos, Electronic Games, Printers, Fax Machines, Computer Monitors, Laptops, Hard Drives, Keyboards, Mice, Cables, DVRs and Cable Boxes.
Items that are not acceptable include microwaves and other small household appliances which can be safely disposed of by scheduling their pick up as part of the city’s weekly metal pick-up on Wednesdays by calling DPW by 3 p.m. on Tuesdays. Cell phones are no longer accepted but can be returned to any cell phone retailer.
Paper shredding will take place from 9 a.m. to noon or until the shredder truck is full. Residents can shred confidential papers with a limit of two banker’s boxes per person.

Sunday— Earth Day Park Clean Up, Education Activities
A series of hands-on and educational activities will kick off at noon in Morgan Memorial Park on Sunday.
First, there will be a park clean up. Supplies will be provided by the Glen Cove Beautification Commission.
At 1 p.m., residents can learn about the ways the city is improving its environmental footprint at a “green briefing” at the park’s gazebo.
At 1:30 p.m. there will be a special tree planting ceremony in honor of Marguerite Suozzi, former Glen Cove first lady and founder of the Morgan Park Summer Music Series, and Nancy Epstein, a long time board member of the Morgan Park Summer Music Festival.
There will also be a Goodwill clothing bin, environmental workshops, a children’s craft project, free giveaways and light refreshments.
