Glen Cove, N.Y. — Recently, students at Glen Cove High School and Robert M. Finley Middle School in the Glen Cove City School District celebrated “Pi Day” March 14, or 3.14. Glen Cove High School's chapter of Math Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, participated in a guessing activity where students were asked to make their best guess of how many Hershey Kisses were in a glass jar. To make their guess, students used geometric formulas for the volume of a cylinder and cone. A total of 360 kisses were in the jar. The winner had to guess the closest number without going over.
First Place: Andrea Sermeno Trigueros, Guess: 325; Second Place: Jaida Ciampi, Guess: 370; Third Place: Joshua Ochoa, Guess: 314; Fourth Place: Ryan Basil, Guess: 410.
At R.M. Finley Middle School, students participated in a virtual Pi Day Activity. Math Honor Society students from the high school, along with club advisor Liana Caesar-Quaye, and Math Coordinator Cassie Shannon, joined middle school students and their teachers via a Google meet.

Students from Jacklyn Burnett’s, Christina Goldstein’s, Katelyn Abrams’, and Nicole Venticinque's classes had a blast during the collaboration. Together with the high school students, they calculated the area and circumference of circles and then used their responses to complete a color-by-number activity.
