Famous Music Venue My Father's Place To Make A Comeback In 2018
Iconic bands like U2, The Police and Duran Duran performed there. The new LI location hopes to discover new talent the old-school way.

My Father's Place, a famous music venue in Roslyn that helped discover iconic bands like U2, The Police, Duran Duran and the Talking Heads, is reopening at a new location after being closed for nearly 30 years.
Michael "Eppy" Epstein says he is reopening My Father's Place in the Roslyn Hotel, located at 1221 Old Northern Boulevard, which is just a five minute walk from its original location.
The original club, located at 19 Bryant Ave., opened in 1971 inside a broken down bowling alley that was converted into a roadhouse.

The place had long tables, a stage, sound lights and a piano. Bands would come play all kinds of genres including jazz, folk, reggae and even comedy. The music venue, after discovering numerous bands that went on to receive worldwide recognition, closed its doors in 1988.

However, the club is making a comeback in 2018.

"I miss the music industry," Eppy, a 70-year-old Glen Cove resident, told Patch. Eppy wants to help discover new talent the way it was done back in the day: going to a concert and hearing the music as opposed to finding a new band through apps like Spotify and Pandora.
"The template of music is gone," Eppy said. "We all cut off our ponytails and became capitalists.”
The new My Father's Place will offer a 225-seat supper club and a lounge area that will fit 60 to 70 people. Club goers can grab a hamburger and listen to quality entertainment. Eppy says the venue will open in May or June of 2018.
Eppy is on the search for as many up-and-coming bands as possible. If a band thinks they can bring in 200 people, they are invited to perform at My Father's Place.

Eppy prides My Father's Place as being a venue that promotes original music. "No cover bands or tribute bands ever played [there]," he said.
Eppy hopes to invite bands similar to Cage The Elephant or Twenty One Pilots to perform at the new location.
While My Father's Place gained recognition thanks to an earlier generation, Eppy says the club won't primarily be for older people. However, he hopes to bring in as many older acts as his original audience wants to see.
“People were passionate about music [back then]," Eppy said. “We had a wonderful concert relationship with bands.”

In the meantime, those who want to listen to live music can head over to The Lighthouse, located at 76 Shore Road in Glen Cove. Bands like China Crisis are set to perform there. “My friend owns the Lighthouse on Shore Road and he built me a stage there because he misses My Father’s Place," Eppy said.
Luckily for his friend, the world famous music venue is making a comeback.
