GLEN COVE DOWNTOWN B.I.D’S ANNUAL MEETING HELD AT THE FIRST CITY PROJECT
Glen Cove, NY-The doors of the First City Project in Downtown Glen Cove were opened once again by owner Joe LaPadula for the Glen Cove Downtown Business Improvement District’s annual meeting. The Glen Cove Downtown B.I.D members, Board of Directors, staff and elective officials were all in for a treat as they were allowed to satisfy their curiosity with a pre-meeting tour of the urban art enclosed within the walls of the antique house of JH Cole.
The Glen Cove Downtown B.I.D.’s annual meeting is a public meeting formed to showcase and report the achievements of the B.I.D for the past year. A B.I.D. is a partnership of property & businesses investing in their neighborhood by self-funding. The B.I.D. provides services beyond those of the local municipality. The main priority of those services is self-determined by the B.I.D. volunteer Board of Directors & the B.I.D. Membership. The B.I.D. works in partnership with the Mayor, City agencies and other community organizations. “The Glen Cove B.ID. Board of Directors, members and volunteers have been supportive of the improvements of the downtown. The B.I.D. continues to serve as an advocate for the businesses, property owners and residents of downtown Glen Cove,” said B.I.D President Alvin Batista. The Glen Cove Downtown B.I.D’s executive director, Patricia Holman started the meeting by saying , “ When I was a small business owner in Downtown Glen Cove I knew the B.I.D. produced free special events that have become the tradition for Glen Cove such as the Halloween Parade, Holiday Festival and the Downtown Sounds ( the free summer concert series) but it was really not until I prepared to take the position as executive director did I realize the magnitude that the Glen Cove Downtown B.I.D. did for the downtown area”. Holman continued on by highlighting the many projects that the B.I.D. was responsible for in 2017. On a yearly basis the B.I.D. maintains over 20 landscapes in the Downtown area, this year the Capital Improvements committee was responsible for developing the landscape along the Brewster street garage as well as putting in a new irrigation system. Partnering with the Glen Cove Summer Youth Employment Program and Aboff’s paint the B.I.D was responsible for the new color and alphabetize signage found in the Brewster street garage. The B.I.D. is also responsible for seasonal decorations throughout the Downtown area. Two new additions to the decorations this year was the Holiday Cottage sponsored by One and Only Dental and a collaboration with the First City Project artist in the designing of new Downtown Banners. One of the many important things that the Glen Cove Downtown B.I.D. does is to market the Downtown area with the use of special events and their new use of social media and a preshow advertisement at AMC. The Downtown Glen Cove welcomed 11 new businesses in 2017.

The City of Glen Cove’s Mayor Tenke was there to swear in the 2018 Board members of the B.I.D.’s Board of Directors. Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton who attended and spoke at the annual meeting commented, “As a Glen Cove resident I truly enjoy seeing the Downtown being so vibrant and attractive. It can only encourage local residents to frequent our restaurants and stores. We are Lucky to have such a professional B.I.D.” Congressman Tom Suozzi who also attended and spoke at the annual meeting said “The Glen Cove Downtown B.I.D., which was formed when I was Mayor of Glen Cove, is an important advocate for our Downtown. When competitive against malls and mall management the B.I.D cannot not only promote the Downtown area but can encourage beautification and help to lease vacant properties. I am honored and humbled to serve as a member of the U.S. Congress. Washington is broken but I am working hard to deliver to Glen Cove and my entire district.”
“The Glen Cove B.I.D. thank the City of Glen Cove and all the agencies, programs and sponsors that they work with as without them many things that the B.I.D does would not be possible,” said Holman.
