Glen Cove Boxing Legend Howard Davis Jr. Dies

The 1976 Olympic gold medalist passed away Wednesday.

Boxing legend and Glen Cove native Howard Davis Jr. passed away Wednesday after being diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer earlier this year.

The 59-year-old was a 1976 Olympic gold medalist. After learning of his diagnosis in February, Davis was inspired to “clobber cancer” through his charity, the Howard Davis Jr. Foundation.

In a visit to Glen Cove in August, Davis thanked his hometown for all the support over the years. “I may call Florida home now, but Glen Cove will always have my heart and will always be my hometown,” he said.
