Congratulations to Justin C. and Timeea C. for being named Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Month for January. The Youth of the Month initiative encourages and recognizes improvements youth are making in academics and overall character and development.
Justin C. is six years old and in the first grade. He is a new member having joined at the beginning of the school year. Justin is getting to know his way around the Club, but his favorite pastime is watching his brother play basketball in the gymnasium. He also likes to play basketball and soccer with his group. In addition to sports at the Club, Justin enjoys drawing in the Art Room playing video games in the Technology Lab. He enjoys coming to the Club every day and has made many friends. “This is a great place to be with your friends,” said Justin. His favorite subject is math, and he hopes to learn how to play the guitar someday. Justin’s ambitions are to either become a Police Officer or a builder when he grows up.
Timeea C., 16, is in the 11th grade. Her favorite subject in school is forensics and she hopes to pursue a career in the field as an investigator. She has been a member for over a year and attends the Club regularly. She is very family focused and for her, the Club has become a second home that provides a sense of comfort and safety. “The Club is a welcoming place that treats you like you are family. It’s a place where you can be yourself, make friends and people really care about you,” said Timeea of her Club experience. She is active and engaged Club member who participates in many teen program driven events and leadership and character-building efforts including Mentoring Matters. She can often be found assisting group leaders and volunteering her time at the Club. She is already making an impression on the younger members who look up to her as a positive role model.
