Lia M. and Rosario R. were named Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club February Youth of the Month for their considerate and caring approach towards their fellow members and staff.
Seven-year-old Lia, the Junior Youth of the Month, is mindful of Club rules and is kind, respectful, courteous and always eager to help staff. Lia is in the second grade and hopes to work at the Club someday. She first joined the Club two years ago when she enrolled in the Summer program. She loved her experience and has continued her membership in the After School program. She enjoys coming to the Club everyday where she completes her homework and plays with her friends. “It’s fun at the Club and I like coming her a lot. I feel happy when I am here,” said Lia. She is also very family oriented and lights up when speaking of her older sister and younger brother. Her favorite subject in school is math, favorite book is My Tooth is About to Fall Out by Grace Maccarone and she would love to learn to play the piano. She is also sporty and has recently joined a soccer league.
Rosario, 11, is in the fifth grade and the Senior Youth of the Month. She is very helpful and always concerned about the well-being of her Club mates and staff. Her protective nature is probably why she hopes to become a police officer when she grows up. “I want to help people,” said Rosario of her future endeavors and ambitions. She has been a member for nearly four years and attends the Club regularly. When at the Club, she focuses her attention on homework, improving her language skills and doing creative projects in the Art Room. She is also a whiz at math and enjoys playing sports, especially soccer and basketball as well as participating in outdoor activities. “I like spending time with my friends here. The staff makes me feel safe and special.”
