Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club

He’Shyne is eight years old and in the second grade. He is a budding sportsman who would love to follow in the footsteps of a player he admires, LeBron James. His favorite teams are the LA Lakers and the NY Nets. While he also enjoys playing soccer, he is preparing for his future hoops career by enrolling in a basketball camp. When not playing sports, He’Shyne is teaching himself to play the guitar, inspired by a gift he received for Christmas this past year. He also likes to read book series, especially Piggie and Elephant by Mo Willems and Pinkalicious by Victoria Kann. He’Shyne first joined the Club’s Summer Program in 2019 and continues to attend daily. His favorite place in the Club is the gymnasium where he gets to play with the many friends he has met from different schools in the area. “I’m so happy here,” said He’Shyne.

Anderson O. is ten years old and in the fifth grade. He gravitates towards the sciences but also likes to read and write. He has been a member for more than four years and credits the Club for shaping his interests by exposing him to different experiences. From learning more about technology to uncovering his creative abilities, Anderson can pursue his interest throughout the Club. He feels passionate about the environment and protecting it, sharing “I am very in tune with nature.” In fact, he loves to read about heroes saving the world. His goal is to become a firefighter someday to help people and fight forest fires. Anderson envisions a future where he would be a firefighter and an artist at the same time. Until he is old enough to save the planet, he is keeping himself busy by attending the Club regularly where he can socialize with friends, hone his artistic skills, improve his technology skills, and play sports
