Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club April Youth of the Month Aspire to Become Doctors

Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club April Youth of the Month Sebastian M. and Ayjah C. both aspire to become doctors.

Sebastian, a 5th grader at the Landing School, is 10 years-old and his favorite subjects are math, arts and English language arts. He also enjoys reading. He joined the Club in September and attends every day. Sebastian is a big fan of the whole Club experience and everything the Club has to offer. “I really like the Technology Lab, doing arts and crafts in the Art Room, playing sports in the Gym and a quiet place to read in the Learning Center.” During his short time as a member he has developed a special bond with group leader and Youth of the Year, Dejon (Dejay) Taylor as well as with Technology Coordinator Mr. Matt (Gagliardi). “Dejay makes me feel happy when I am sad and he likes to play sports with us. Mr. Matt helps me on the computer and with special projects.” Sebastian would like to follow in his Mother’s footsteps and become a doctor when he grows up. “Doctors help people and keep them healthy. I would like to make people feel better.”

13 year-old Ayjah also hopes to pursue a career in medicine. In fact, Ayjah recently participated in a Job Shadowing event at Glen Cove North Shore LIJ Hospital. Through this Club partnered event, Ayjah followed a pharmacist and a nurse and got to see first-hand what a day in the life of a pharmacist and nurse was like. Ayjah is in the 7th grade at Robert M. Finley Middle School and her favorite subjects are English and science. “I want to help people and I think the Club has been influential in my decision to become a doctor. The Club helps me with my homework and my school work and keeps me on track so that I won’t be lost or unprepared.” Ayjah’s special connection is with Ms. Desirae (O’Neill) and Ms. Brianna (Townsell). “Ms. Desirae and Ms. Brianna are always there when I need them. For me the Club means safety, family and happiness. I can trust people here.”

Congratulations to Sebastian and Ayjah.
