Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club May Youth of the Month

Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club members Joseph M.-C. and Rosemary A. selected the Youth of the Month for May.

(Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club)

Senior Youth of the Month, Joseph, is ten years old and in the fifth grade. He was beaming with pride at learning he has earned this Club recognition. “This place is amazing. Everyone is welcoming and they treat you like family,” said Joseph who has been a member for three years. “My mom works a lot and my brother and I come here after school every day. We get homework help and she knows we are safe. I also like to be a role model to the younger kids. They look up to me and I like to help the staff as much as I can. The Club was really important to me during COVID. When there was no school, the Club was open and we could be with friends.” Joseph is an avid sportsman who is the captain of his traveling soccer team. His goal is to be a professional soccer player with a back up plan of becoming a gym teacher or a Club staff. He hopes to work at the Club as a group leader when he comes of age. Joseph likes math and at a High School reading level prefers to read biographies of important leaders and role models in history, including Martin Luther King, Jr., and Rosa Parks.

Junior Youth of the Month, Rosemary A. is seven years old and in the first grade. She is a sweet young lady with ambitions of becoming a doctor to take care of her family. “I want to help my family and I want to help other people.” She is well on her way by learning as much as she can, favoring subjects in math, science, reading, social studies and religion. She prefers Dr. Suess books, especially The Cat in the Hat. When not in school or at the Club, she plays soccer and is involved in gymnastics and ballet. She has been a member for two years and joins in many Club activities. “I get homework help here, play soccer with my friends, do artwork, watch movies and the staff help me study for tests. I would like to work here when I’m a teen.”

Congratulations to Joseph and Rosemary.
