Glen Cove Braces for Nor'easter: Power Outages, Coastal Flooding, High Winds

The Glen Cove Office of Emergency Management will be working throughout the night to monitor and respond to the storm hitting our region, the City announced Monday.

A powerful nor'easter will impact Long Island Monday and Tuesday, with damaging winds and coastal flooding the main concerns. More info here. Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano has issued a nor’easter storm alert across the county.
The Glen Cove OEM is in contact with Glen Cove Police, Fire and EMS to make sure they have adequate staffing. All beaches in Glen Cove are also closed.

Residents can expect high wind and heavy rain. The City says to expect and prepare for power outages.
Storm Preparedness Checklist:
- If you lose power, call PSEG at 1-800-490-0075.
- If you see a downed wire, call 911 and stay 300 feet away.
- If sheltering becomes an issue, contact the Glen Cove Police Department at (516) 676-1000 for assistance.
- All generators must be located outside of your home in a well ventilated area and in case of any emergencies, call 911.
- Make sure your cell phones, tablets and laptops are charged; have a back-up cell phone charger.
- Check your supply of batteries, flashlights, bottled water, ready-to-eat foods, wood for the fireplace, propane for barbeque grills and emergency medical supplies.
- Secure your outdoor patio furniture and potted plants.
- Boaters ensure your boats are tied up and chained or take your vessel out of the water.
- Place home fire extinguishers in a convenient location.
- Drive with caution during heavy storm activities as there may be flooding, falling branches and trees and hazardous road conditions. Avoid driving unless necessary.
