ICYMI: Glen Cove Hardware Store Closes After 60 Years
The hardware store is closing because the owner, who's worked there for 60-plus years, can't keep up with the heavy work load.
GLEN COVE, NY — Glen Cove is losing a community staple with the closing of Charles of Glen Cove, according to a release from the Glen Cove Downtown Business Improvement District (BID). The hardware store is shuttering its doors after 62 years in business.
The BID said the store owners, Douglas and Susan Goldstein, got a proper send off during the BID's Feb. 27 annual meeting held at Noble Savage Brewing Company.
"The Glen Cove Downtown Business Improvement District is very sad to see the closing of Charles of Glen Cove for over six decades Charles of Glen Cove served and created wonderful memories for the community of Glen Cove," the release said.

The business is doing well, the Long Island Herald reported, but Douglas "can't keep up with the workload anymore" after 60 years of working there, he was reported as saying.
"As we are sad to see Sue and Doug Goldstein retire the Glen Cove BID would like to thank them for all they have done for our community by honoring and celebrating them at our annual meeting,” Patricia Holman, executive director of the Downtown B.I.D., said in the release.
