Glen Cove To Honor Fallen Residents In 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

The service will honor the four individuals from Glen Cove who lost their lives on this tragic day 16 years ago.

All members of the community are invited to attend a 9/11 remembrance ceremony in Glen Cove on Monday, Sept. 11 in honor of the 16th anniversary of that tragic day.

The community will remember the 2,997 people whose lives were lost on Sept. 11, 2001, including four Glen Cove residents: Edward J. Lehman, Matthew T. McDermott, John F. Puckett and Joseph J. Zuccala.

“It is important for our community to come together and remember those who tragically lost their lives on that morning sixteen years ago along with the fearless first responders who put their lives on the line to save others,” Glen Cove Mayor Reggie Spinello said in a press release.

The ceremony will be held at Glen Cove’s 9/11 Memorial in Pratt Park, located at 10 Glen Cove Ave., at 8:40 a.m. The ceremony will include:

  • A Color Guard presentation
  • Prayer service
  • The sounding of the fire horn to acknowledge those moments in time when planes that hit the World Trade Center towers
  • A poem reading by Victoria Crosby
  • Musical performances by Ritchie Cannata, Robert Lynch and Matt Grabowski
  • Remarks from Spinello and special guests

The mayor, Glen Cove City Council, Glen Cove Police Department, Volunteer Fire Department, Auxiliary Police, Harbor Patrol and Glen Cove Chamber of Commerce along with distinguished guests, musicians and local veterans will all be in attendance.
