Glen Cove Mayor's Snapper Derby Returns for 2015

Kids ages 6 to 16 are invited to join the fishing fun on Saturday, Aug. 15.

Kids are invited to compete in the upcoming annual Glen Cove Mayor’s Snapper Derby on Saturday, Aug. 15.

Those who want to join in on the fishing fun must bring one rod and reel to the event, held at the Pryibil Beach Fishing Pier.

Trophies for first, second and third place will be awarded to the top catches of the day in each division as well as to the Best Angler of the day.

“This is one event I never miss,” said Mayor Reggie Spinello. “Seeing the kids baiting their hooks and casting off with their eye on the prize is such a great way to enjoy Glen Cove’s waterfront.”

The Snapper Derby, which is hosted by the Glen Cove Anglers Club, will offer a junior division for kids ages 6 to 10 and a senior division for kids 11 to 16.

All participants will receive a Glen Cove Mayor’s Snapper Derby Tee shirt, a hot dog, a soda and a raffle ticket for prizes (while supplies last).

Registration will be held from 8:15 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

All prizes will be awarded at the end of the day and winners must be present to accept their prize.

The Glen Cove Mayor’s Snapper Derby is held in cooperation with the Glen Cove Department of Parks & Recreation with support from the Glen Cove Anglers Club and the Matinecock Rod & Gun Club.
