Glen Cove Ranked Among Safest Places in New York

Glen Cove residents don’t need to sleep with one eye open at night, at least according to recently released rankings.

The home security website Alarm System Reviews says the City is the No. 27 safest place in New York.

To determine the safety rankings, the website used data from several national sources to find the number of violent and property crimes in communities with at least 2,500 residents. The website then used the total number of crimes and the reported population to assign an overall crime rate per 1,000 residents.

The rankings say Glen Cove, with a population of 27,241, has a 0.2 violent crime rate and a 3.6 property crime rate per 1,000.

The City of Glen Cove is located in Nassau County along the North Shore of Long Island and is part of what is referred to as the “Gold Coast” for the number of wealthy families and lavish home estates. In the mid-1800s, Glen Cove was a popular summer resort for residents of New York City who would arrive by steamboat at a point still called “The Landing”.

Compared to Waterbury, Vt., however, Glen Cove residents are living life on the edge. Vermont was ranked the No. 1 safest state in America and Waterbury is its safest town, according to Alarm System Reviews. New York was ranked the No. 16 safest state in America.

The rankings say the safest place in New York is Stockport, a town located south of Albany.
