Glen Cove Veterans Day Ceremony Honors Those Who Served
The city's 2017 honoree was lifelong Glen Cove resident and Navy veteran Roger Weldon.

Glen Cove residents gathered at the Doughboy Memorial to pay homage to all those who have served in the United States military to protect our country's freedoms on Saturday, Veterans Day.
The city’s 2017 honoree, Navy veteran Roger Weldon, was recognized for his service at the special ceremony.
Mayor Reggie Spinello made remarks on Weldon’s accomplishments and contributions at the ceremony. Spinello asked audience members to shake hands with our veterans and thank them for their service to the United States of America. He said that many veterans have never heard the words, “thank you.”

The lifelong Glen Cove resident joined the United States Navy in 1950 and completed his service in 1954 as a 2nd Class Petty Officer Engineman. He also served in the United States Coast Guard Reserve from 1972 through 1992.
Weldon was a Glen Cove Police officer for 20 years, from 1957 to 1977, and has been an active member of the Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department since 1957. He worked for LILCO and for Buckner Brothers, and is a member of the Howard A. Van Wagner Post 962 American Legion.
