Glen Cove's July 4 Festivities

The weekend will feature music, fireworks and a children's bike parade.

There’s something to do every day during the July 4 weekend festivities in Glen Cove.

Residents can get ready for fireworks, a classic child’s bike parade, music downtown and in the park along with beach, picnic and playground fun at Morgan Memorial Park.

“The July 4th celebration in Glen Cove is a favorite celebration of our residents,” Mayor Reggie Spinello said in a press release. “We’ve got fireworks, a classic children’s bike parade and people often enjoy spending the day at Morgan Memorial Park with swimming, picnics and playground fun.”

Here’s a look at Glen Cove’s July 4th schedule:

Glen Cove’s Annual July 4th Children’s Bike Parade at 10 a.m.

  • Bikes, scooters, wagons, strollers and battery-powered vehicles roll down the streets at 10 a.m. from Robert M. Finley Middle School as children enjoy riding through downtown Glen Cove to the Village Square with their spirited energy and patriotism in full view.
  • Meet at the Robert M. Finley Middle School horseshoe on Forest Avenue at 9:30 a.m. for bike decorating. The bike parade ends at Glen Cove’s City Hall with refreshments, crafts, music, giveaways and an announcement of the bike decorating contest winners.
  • Winners are selected in three categories: Most Patriotic, Most Original and Best Group. The winner receives special prizes and acknowledgement by Mayor Spinello.

Northwinds Symphonic Band at Morgan Memorial Park at 7:30 p.m.

  • The Northwinds Symphonic Band is under the musical direction of Helen Bauer and guest conductor Barbara Sherwin. The band is a diverse group of musicians of all ages (ages 13-83), occupations and experiences and will play a variety of America’s Patriotic favorites.
  • This year’s theme is “Land of Liberty” and the band’s performance will include familiar marches and patriotic favorites, selections from The Producers, and the music of Leonard Bernstein and John Williams. Also on the program will be a medley of Duke Ellington favorites. Soprano Stephanie Horowitz will join the band for the Big Band standard, Birth of the Blues and Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
  • Northwinds will honor the men and women of the U.S. military with a medley of the Armed Forces Anthems and close the concert with the Official March of the United States, Stars and Stripes Forever.
  • In case of rain, the concert will be held indoors at St. Patrick’s Church Parish Hall on July 4.

Grucci Fireworks at 9:15 p.m.

  • The 2017 sky show will be curated by Fireworks by Grucci and include an array of pyrotechnic wonders, barrages, grand illuminations, rockets and multi-patterned scenes that will light up the sky. In case of rain, the Fireworks will be rescheduled for Tuesday, July 5 at 9:15 p.m.

Bags and backpacks are subject to search at Morgan Memorial Park for contraband, such as alcohol and fireworks.

Parking restrictions will be in effect in the Landing neighborhood on July 4:

  • Starting at 9 a.m., there will be no parking on Germaine Street, Landing Road or McLoughlin Street west of Carpenter Street.
  • Parking for individuals with Handicap Parking Permits will be available in the Morgan Park parking lot.

For residents who will watch the fireworks from the Long Island Sound, safe boating is encouraged.
