Hibachi Restaurant Coming to Glen Cove

Hibachi-style dining may arrive in Glen Cove before summer, according to the owner of a new Asian restaurant under construction at the corner of North Cottage Row and Forest Ave.

Owner Sue Lin and family members run Sweet Mandarin Asian Bistro, Hibachi & Sushi Bar in Sayville. They were interested in opening a similar restaurant on the North Shore and looked at a few sites before deciding on Glen Cove.

"The location is good," Lin said.

The two-story former East Wok is larger than the Sayville establishment and will allow for up to 140 seats, Lin said. She said major renovations are coming along, and Glen Cove-based architect Paul Pellicani is in charge of the new place's design. She hopes to open as early as May, but said the schedule is very tentative.

Hibachi dining is best for large groups, said Lin, with tables that can seat as many as 20 people. Chefs with a special skill set cook in view of customers with an entertaining mastery of their tools.
