GLEN COVE, NY — London Jewelers, which was founded in Glen Cove, seeks more than $1 million in tax breaks over 25 years to help it moves its headquarters to Glen Head, according to a report. The retailer wants to buy empty office space at 1 Underhill Rd. to consolidate operations currently spread across three buildings in downtown Glen Cove.

The Underhill Road building already saves around $77,000 in property taxes each year through the Nassau County Industrial Development Agency, according to the jeweler.

The family-owned company began in 1926 as a small shop on Glen Cove's School Street. It has since expanded to include a flagship location at the Americana Manhasset shopping store and stores at Wheatley Plaza in Greenvale, Westfield World Trade Center mall in lower Manhattan, the Mall at Short Hills in New Jersey and in East Hampton and Southampton.
