New Yoga Studio Opens In Downtown Glen Cove: PHOTOS
Glen Cove Yoga opened this month on Glen Street. Owner Amy Garvey gave Patch a tour of the new place.

GLEN COVE, NY — A new yoga studio has opened in Glen Cove. City council members as well as county and state lawmakers joined Wednesday to celebrate a ribbon-cutting ceremony of Glen Cove Yoga on Glen Street.
Owner Amy Garvey, who also has a studio in Oyster Bay, told Patch on Wednesday the studio officially opened for business last week, offering group classes to all regardless of fitness level or expertise.
"Even if you've never done yoga before we're really a relaxed environment," she said. "We're very low-key and we specialize in working with beginners."

She recommended one of the online yoga roots classes for beginners. An open house event is also planned Saturday with free classes in the morning as well as a big party with live music, drinks and raffles from noon to 4 p.m.
Garvey eyed Glen Cove due to the city's youthfulness, her husband, Greg, said. The studio is offering a special for new participants: it's just $15 for the first week of unlimited classes. The studio has Manduka yoga mats for customers, as well as soft blankets, bolsters and blocks. The studio also has weights ranging from 2 pounds to 5 pounds.

"You can build strength too," she said. "It's not all about flexibility."
Garvey's studio also has a shower for those who work up a sweat. But perhaps the best part — there's a cozy section in the back for post-workout relaxation and, of course, some delicious yogi tea.
Currently classes begin at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., though early morning and late evening classes will be added as more people sign up.
Patch got to walk through the new studio Wednesday and chat with Garvey on Facebook Live.
Below is a photo roundup of the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Among those in attendance: Laura Curran, the county executive, Glen Cove councilwoman Marsha Silverman, Deputy Mayor Maureen Basdavanos, state Sen. Jim Gaughran and county Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton.
