GLEN COVE, NY — Hundreds of kids trick-or-treated in Glen Cove over the weekend as part of the annual Halloween parade, organizers said. The parade, organized by the Glen Cove Downtown Business Improvement District, began at School Street and Highland Road and finished at Glen and Pulaski streets.
Patricia Holman, the group's executive director, told Patch on Monday turnout this year was excellent. The district expected 200 kids to participate and saw far more — more than 300, she estimated. Children decked out in various costumes — including horrifying Pennywise outfits from Stephen King's "It" — were invited to trick or treat at local businesses along with their parents. Posters welcomed them into stores and restaurants, where they received candies.
"It's designed so that kids trick or treat at businesses," Holman said. They go in and out and get to see the businesses and see the restaurants. See any new businesses open up."

The event allows parents to pop in to their local shops and see new places they might not have walked into. This year, Noble Savage Brewing Company was among the newer businesses to participate, as well as Glen Cove Yoga — which officially opens for business Wednesday — and Boost Mobile.
This year's event also featured a bouncy house, DJ, pie-eating contest and plenty of cotton candy.

"Everyone seemed to have a lot of fun," said Holman.
She added: "It’s one of your favorite events."
