Police Rescue 2 from Capsized Boat Off Centre Island

The victims were on a 16-foot catamaran, officials said.

Two men were rescued from an overturned boat off of Centre Island Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

Officials say the Nassau County Police Marine Bureau received a distress call and responded to Oyster Bay Harbor just off Moses Point, Center Island at about 4:!5 p.m.

Upon arrival, marine bureau officers located an overturned 16-foot Catamaran and two males, 31 and 18, in the water, police said.

The officers pulled the two victims from the water and onto the police boat. Both victims were wearing wearing proper floatation devices and suits, and were brought safely to shore without further incident, police said.

There were no injuries reported, according to police.

Nassau County Marine Bureau Police were unable to secure the overturned vessel due to high winds, rough seas, and ice conditions, police said.

The U.S. Coast Guard was notified to respond, according to police.

No additional information was immediately available.
