Prescription Opioids Often Gateway to Heroin
Be prepared to potentially save a life. Attend a Narcan education and training session on December 5.

Every day, over 1,000 people are treated in emergency departments for misusing prescription opioids, which are highly addictive and often leads to heroin use. In an effort to protect our citizens, Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton is sponsoring Narcan education and training session on Thursday, December 5 at 6:30 p.m. at The Bryant Library, 2 Papermill Road in Roslyn.
“Once I learned how addictive opioids are, I was shocked at how easily doctors prescribe them for pain even for children,” Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton said. “I strongly encourage everyone to attend one of these Narcan sessions. Even if you never need to use the Narcan inhaler for someone you think is overdosing, the education part is something everyone should know.”
There is no charge for the session, but reservations are needed to ensure there is an adequate supply of Narcan inhalant kits, which everyone who is trained will receive during the December 5 meeting. Please contact Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton’s office at 516-571-6211 or online at nassaucountyny.gov/overdosetraining to register.
