Long Island Weather: 3 Straight Days of Snow Possible, Starting Monday Morning
How much snow is coming to Long Island this week? Check out the latest National Weather Service 5-day forecast.

UPDATES:
- Near Blizzard Conditions Expected in Suffolk County, Winter Storm Warning Issued
- Winter Weather Advisory Issued For Nassau County
Just as Long Islanders finish digging out from Friday’s stronger than expected storm, forecasters say we could be in for a marathon stretch of snowfall in the coming week.
Multiple storm systems are headed our way and may drop a half foot of snow on parts of the island.
The National Weather Service has issued the follow hazardous weather outlook for the region:
AN OFFSHORE STORM WILL LIKELY BRING A LIGHT ACCUMULATING SNOW TO EASTERN LONG ISLAND AND PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT LATE TONIGHT... A LIGHT ACCUMULATING SNOW IS EXPECTED MONDAY AS AN OFFSHORE LOW SYSTEM PASSES WELL TO THE EAST. THERE IS STILL POTENTIAL FOR THIS LOW TO TRACK CLOSER TO THE COAST...WHICH WOULD BRING POTENTIAL FOR A MODERATE SNOWFALL. THEN...ANOTHER LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IS FORECAST TO DEVELOP ACROSS THE MID-ATLANTIC STATES AND BRING THE POTENTIAL FOR MORE SNOW MONDAY NIGHT AND TUESDAY. LINGERING LIGHT SNOW IS POSSIBLE TUESDAY NIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY. SNOWFALL ACCUMULATION FORECAST SPREAD REMAINS MODERATE TO HIGH THROUGH THIS PERIOD.
At the moment, the NWS is projecting 3-4 inches of snow to fall in Nassau and western Suffolk from 1 a.m. Monday until 7 a.m. Wednesday. For eastern Suffolk, 4-6 inches is expected. But if the storm shifts to the west, those snow totals could double, according to a forecast discussion by the National Weather Service’s New York office.
The snow is expected to begin across Long Island Monday morning. Snow will remain likely through Tuesday night and there is currently a 40 percent chance of snow on Long Island Wednesday.
“The snow should be light most of the time when it does fall,” the NWS said. “However...cannot completely rule out times of moderate snow Tuesday or Wednesday.”
Don’t expect anything like January’s blizzard in the coming week, though.
“Even if heavy and windswept snow unfolds, a repeat of the late-January blizzard with 2-3 feet of snow over a large area appears highly unlikely,” according to AccuWeather.
The sun will return Thursday after a 3-day hiatus.
