GCHS Freshman Class Raises Funds for Local Animal Shelter
Glen Cove, N.Y. — Recently, the Glen Cove High School freshman class of 2024, with the help of Ms. Debra Spano, freshman advisor, sponsored a collection for their local animal shelter, Cove Animal Rescue in Glen Cove, N.Y.
“We are always happy to have the young adults of our community show their support,” said Kathy Norcia of Cove Animal Rescue. “These efforts help the dogs and cats in our shelter live comfortably until they find their forever homes.”
Students collected items such as canned and dry dog and cat food, dog and cat toys, treats, small paper plates, paper towels, trash bags, sanitary products, sheets, blankets and laundry detergent to provide to the shelter.

“We want people to take away that it is really important to give back to the community in any way we can,” said Ava Scagliola, grade 9. “With the pandemic, we sometimes forget about the animals in need of food and other necessities to survive. It’s more important than ever to give back.” added classmate Sasha Brennan.
Cove Animal Rescue is a not-for-profit organization that strives for a cage-free environment to help eliminate the fear and stresses that make an animal difficult to present for adoption. Their mission is to increase the adoptability of homeless dogs and cats through training, socialization and improved surroundings that facilitate transition to a home environment.
